Disappointed in the Community’s Lack of Inclusivity

I was drawn to this townhome community in Manhattan because of its well-maintained properties and promises of a welcoming environment. However, I am deeply disappointed by the HOA’s decision to prohibit the display of Pride flags. This policy sends a disheartening message to LGBTQ+ residents and their allies: that expressions of identity, love, and support are not valued here.

HOAs are meant to foster community spirit, not stifle it. Prohibiting Pride flags under the guise of “neutrality” or “uniformity” feels outdated and exclusionary, especially in a time when inclusivity should be celebrated, not suppressed. This rule stands in stark contrast to the values of diversity and acceptance that many residents hold dear.

A community’s strength lies in its ability to embrace and celebrate differences, and unfortunately, this townhome community falls short. I urge the HOA to reconsider its stance and adopt policies that reflect the evolving values of our society. A homeowner should not be told they must remove their pride flag or face fines.

Until then, I cannot recommend this community to anyone seeking an inclusive and supportive place to live.
