Recently, management reached out offering White Sox tickets in exchange for “leaving a great review”. Instead of complying, I’ve decided to leave an honest review of my experience. I’ve attached an image of them asking and some images from the past months. I was planning on leaving a review so this is perfect timing.

Google’s review policy states:

In the three years my partner and I have lived here, rent has consistently increased while the quality has declined.

For example, overflowing garbage attracts rats, and package theft has become more frequent. The complex no longer feels like it has the luxury amenities the clubhouse suggests.

Inside the apartments, the walls are thin—you can hear every step or argument from your neighbors. In the summer, it’s difficult to keep the temperature below 75 degrees. There are occasional issues with drain flies, ants, and the smell of rotting meat from a nearby processing plant.

Requesting help from management? Good luck.

I expect a canned response, something like “We’re sorry you feel that way” or asking me to follow up directly. But these issues have been ongoing, and they will remain until either Greystar makes some serious changes or the property is sold and remodeled.

Horrible experience living here. The place is gone to hell since Ascend took over. Utter state of disrepair. Maintenance is reactive, rather than proactive and has no pm program to clean above unit drains in mechanical closets that eventually destroy ceilings in units beneath them (joy). Walk the complex at night and count the non working lights everywhere. Mice are present in the buildings but they can't do anything about them. Office staff is unprofessional and arrogant.
Better, newer and cheaper places are available nearby.

We've been here for over a year and a half and adore the beautiful view from our balcony. The personnel is awesome here...maintenance is fantastic, very polite, and has come to our rescue when we have had a problem, which is not very frequently. We feel really at ease here. Our dear son's favourite spot is the pool, and he enjoys cycling on the lake. He makes fantastic friends in the neighbourhood and enjoys playing with them in our apartment's backyard. We are all delighted to live here because it is so serene and comfortable.

The newly installed door handle on the 3rd floor of building 166 has already come loose.
Why were these replaced? They are less convenient to use than the push/pull handles that were just installed last year.
Should have just painted the doors and called it a day.

The location is outstanding, complex itself is beautifully landscaped and well-maintained, service requests are handled in a timely manner, management has been pleasant to work with, the lake provides a lovely environment for walking with my dog. I like that, as a senior citizen, I have first-floor entry and an attached garage which makes access very easy for me, and I have a small outdoor space with views of willow trees, lush landscape, and the lake with fountain. Very peaceful. After looking at several different communities, I can honestly say this one felt like home the minute I drove in and looked around.

I’ve lived here for six years through multiple management changes, and the folks at Marquette Management, who just took over, are by far the worst I’ve experienced on this property.

They refuse to pick up the phone, can’t manage the online payment system, and have handled the transition incredibly poorly.

While I don’t blame them for the issues caused by previous management, I’m paying luxury prices for what feels like a beginner apartment. There are plenty of better options in the area, and I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Greystar moved on from this property, and you should too. I can’t wait for my lease to expire.

I’ve been holding off on reviewing this place for years, but what finally pushed me over the edge was them not picking up the phone for a week straight, even after I left voicemails.

I’ve included some photos of the greatest hits over the years, including a volleyball court infested with wasps, hair painted into my walls by the landlord, and random food thrown from balconies to feed hoards of geese that poop everywhere.

Unfortunately, I don’t have photos of the rats near the trash area, the ice patches we slip on every winter, or the neighbors that peer into your windows.

I’ve had a great experience living at Ascend Saint Charles! The amenities are top-notch, and any issues I’ve had were fixed quickly by the maintenance team. The management is responsive and truly cares about the residents. Overall, it’s a comfortable and welcoming place to live!

Nice when it was Amli, horrible under Ascend.
Descend would be more of an appropriate name for the complex. Lackadaisical office staff and living underneath an apartment filled with children was challenging. The mail room was an absolute free for all. There's better places to live for less nearby.
