Our experience with Urban Equities has been extremely disappointing and stressful. From the beginning, there have been multiple issues that have significantly impacted our quality of life and mental health.

1. Privacy Violations: Our personal information regarding our emotional support animal (ESA) was improperly shared with other tenants. Despite our concerns about privacy, the building engineer and management disclosed details that were not necessary, creating an uncomfortable living situation.
2. Lack of Communication and False Accusations: We have received multiple anxiety-inducing messages accusing us of having our dog off-leash, despite always complying with the leash rules since the first notification. They have cameras in the backyard but seem to prefer making unfounded threats rather than verifying the facts.
3. Health and Safety Neglect: A tenant claimed to have placed rat poison in the shared yard. We raised this serious health concern with Urban Equities, but they dismissed our worries without proper investigation or notification to other residents, which is required under local safety guidelines.
4. Harassment and Threats: Instead of addressing our legitimate concerns, Urban Equities has made our living situation miserable by constantly threatening to restrict access to the yard for our ESA and making false statements without investigating tenant complaints. This has significantly affected our mental health and overall well-being.

We had hoped for a peaceful and respectful living environment, but Urban Equities has consistently failed to provide this. Their lack of professionalism, disregard for tenant privacy, and failure to ensure a safe living space make it difficult to recommend them to anyone especially if they have any type of medical disability whether physical or mental.

5/29/24 This just happened today. I submitted everything requested for the apartment at 1902 Birchwood even my current landlord information. I received a call back from Didi at Urban Equities informing me that I was given the apartment. She went on to let me know the next steps. I was to pay the first month rent and she said I would get my keys on Saturday. Before the call was complete she told me she found an eviction on my credit and denied my application.

Very difficult to be approved for their low income. I have student loans and was denied housing only due to unpaid student loan debt. Now I'm going to be homeless. I wish I was a migrant so I'd get free housing. I make money and pay taxes but because of student loans I am unable to live in chicago. I will be homeless starting this mid summer.

I love the layout of the apartment and the maintenance man is great. Actually getting through to speak with someone in the office has yet to happen in 2 years. Rent increases have been exorbitant and unreasonable. If I run AC and anything else in the apartment at the same time, the breaker goes. Electricity in the apartment is not adequate to handle 21st century living.

Friendly staff always supportive and accommodating when possible in addition, the building maintenance specific to my unit is always taken care of when requested promptly depending always on the severity of the issue. Highly recommended.

I have never had an apartment negatively affect my quality of life this one has. I was left with no electricity or heat in the winter. In the summer If I run an ac unit in my window my power goes out. I have maintenance requests from 8 months when I moved in that are still not completed. My kitchen flooded about 4 inches in June and nothing more was done to help other than putting a box fan on the floor a day or two later. overall I would say I’m left disappointed with what I thought would be a mutually pleasant rental agreement.

We have had a completely unsettling experience at this apartment. Management is very sketchy and does not care about our saftey, well-being or quality of life. We have gone multiple days with out electricity one of these times being 5 days. The most recent time last week we went with out electricity again and they told us we could not run our window ac or we would not have electricity. They are telling us to live in 100+ degree temperatures in our home or have no electricity. We have also gone without heat for days on end while it was -30 outside. We have an ant problem , we have woken up in bed multiple times with ants in our bed. The ants are all over our kitchen and bathroom as well. We had flooding 1/2 a foot of water in our apartment and no one would come help us. They didn’t do anything about it and now our apartment smells like mold very bad. We have not have a working oven for weeks and went months with out a properly working refrigerator. Our bath tub was clogged for weeks and they would not come fix it when they finally did they billed us for a plumbing problem that was not any fault of our own. This is hands down the worst place I lived.

Terrible service! I haven't even got the chance to finalize my lease. Finally applied for a unit, they ghosted my application for several days and ended up renting the apartment to someone else. It was almost impossible to reach out to them and so I am happy I haven't moved forward!
