It appears Townsend Property Management in DeKalb has abandoned their responsibilities without notifying all tenants or property owners. Their office is empty, calls and emails go unanswered, and critical maintenance issues are being ignored. Additionally, there are reports that Townsend is failing to forward rent payments to property owners. Even the city of DeKalb has acknowledged an influx of complaints from tenants frustrated by requests being ignored by Townsend. This level of mismanagement isnāt just unprofessionalāit is illegal.

We had several different landscapers since I moved here in 2017. All the bushes around the sides of mine an my neighborās units have been dead for the past 2 years. They have doubled our HOA fee over the last year and our grounds still look awful.

Our townhome association is horrible and very mismanaged. When calling in about any issue Alyssa is rude, unprofessional, and does not allow you to go above her when she does not take care of things making matters worse. The Townsends do nothing but let this woman run their business as if she owns it. Meanwhile our townhome association just keeps getting worse to where it is effecting our property values making it a legal matter. Because as one example our landscaping is an absolute mess. Has been for years and it keeps getting worse. In short all the maintenance that the association does cover just keeps going downhill. Townhome owners on the board give attitude to those that do show up to meetings with concern or issues saying their positions are unpaid. Need new leadership and board members are needed for sure. Would give less than one star but this does not allow it.

Scam property management company ripping people off for bogus application fees. My daughter told them exactly what her credit score was, income etc. they told her they would accept it with a co-signer. I have almost 800 credit and high income with low debt. They charged us both a separate application fee. Long story short they denied her because of her credit score which was 20 points higher than she told them. When she called her she was told that the co-signer wasnāt for her credit score but only back up income. Had they been honest.. we wouldnāt have applied. Scam company to avoid, as it seems they just take application fees knowing they are not going to approve you anyways. Poor practice and see why they have the worst reviews. Avoid at all costs

When we moved into our apartment, the unit was not even ready. It was dirty, multiple appliances were out of order, and there were screws left on the living room carpet. They had the audacity to tell us it was cleaned that morning when we complained.
Our roof had a massive leak that went unfixed for months. Water literally flooded our apartment from a fire detectorā¦
Even maintenance was unprofessional, entering our locked apartment without so much as knocking multiple times and taking literal months to get to maintenance requests.
To make matters worse, they are now claiming years later that myself and my roommates didnāt pay āturnover feesā. They claim they mailed this to us but nobody received anything - supposedly a āpost office problemā. They also claim the turnover fees were sent to collections which again nobody has received anything from - not even a phone call.
I highly recommend avoiding Townsend. They constantly showed a lack of ethics and professionalism while we rented from them and continue to do so years later.

Staff there is very unprofessional. Almost all of them don't even know what's going on. I moved out early but was still paying rent and was told by their staff I wouldn't be responsible for the water bill but they lied and still charge me for it. Very poor management skill on all of their part.
Washing machine was regularly broken. On move out I cleaned the apartment from top to bottom but they charged me a half the amount for cleaning things they would have anyways. $250 for repainting.
I like to think I was a respectable tenant, didn't make a mess paid every bill on time was respectful when talking to them. But they were very unprofessional and only saw way for them to save money. Overall I had a terrible experience and I'm writing this review to warn all of you it's not worth signing with Townsend management!

I maybe new to Townsend but I have to give credit where credit is due. I loved working with Alyssa when I saw my property she was relatable and so nice. She answered my questions and was so pleasant. I turned in my application the evening I saw the property the next day I spoke with Brittany she was able to get me approved for the house and worked quickly to get my approval. She was informative and professional. When I came to sign my lease all my questions were answered quickly. I also called a million times before I got my keys someone always answered and answered my questions. The day I got my keys the furnace in the house stopped working. The office was on top of it. They were able to get my furnace fixed the same day and made sure it was a priority to get it fixed. I also worked with Karen I believe was her name she called me first thing in the morning to let me know about the heat. And when the office was closed made sure to get me the keys to the house. I have to say I am impressed with the office and how I was treated and how the furnace situation was handled. I hope this is how my duration of my lease will go but the office exceeded my expectations. Thank you!
