I lived for 4 plus years at 2 spring st and when I wanted to move out under the hardship clause for renters and it was approved with an option to continue to pay until the apartment was rented out or my lease was up.I asked for the move to be without penalty. I was assured by property management that I would not lose my security and her assurances were that my security deposit was secure. I find later that her explanation for the option I chose was misleading and now I forfeit my deposit. I will contest but be advised that this company is fraudulent in its practices

Building at 2110 Newkirk Ave in Brooklyn have drastically deteriorated over the years. A new manager / porters are hired every few months, tenants are smoking heroine, cocaine, weed, cigarettes in the lobby. Packages are stolen frequently from the lobby, dont bother reporting it, they dont care. Cameras don't work for the safety of the tenants. Garbage areas are infested with rats. Now the hot water is intermittent throughout the day. I can keep going...but that's enough. Terrible management...

Beware stay away from Estling Villages! A terrible place to live as property management is useless. They want to charge you for everything however they don't even respond to work requests and complaints. My mistake was I should have read the bad reviews as they are all true! And when you complain to senior management, they will not address any of your issues.

I echo the sentiments of most everyone here who has left a negative review. I too, would like to give zero stars if I could. As soon as Shamco purchased my apartment building it became a horrifying experience. Unrealistic rent increases have forced many of the tenants to leave and the lack of concern from the management is mind-boggling. The appliances barely function and the only upkeep is given to the grounds. I'm counting the days to leave here and hopefully find an apartment where the tenants are treated with respect and value.

Run, don't walk if you were looking at a Shamco owned building. And I think the name of their management company is perfect. There's no bigger sham than Shamco.

Absolutely horrible tenant experience. I live in one of their buildings in Washington heights, and they fail to meet the bare minimum requirements of landlords in NYC. We don’t have sufficient heat, nobody seems to want to respond to any of our complaints about it. Brian Walfish, our building manager, is an absolute joke. He came into my apartment after I got very stern with the office because nobody was fixing our heat, spoke over me the entire time I tried to tell him what was happening, he tried to gaslight me into thinking I was the only one complaining about the heat. Mind you: there are six open complaints to 311 about no heat on the exact same day. I was not the only person complaining. Our entire building is so frustrated with the lack of care and the complete unwillingness of management, especially Brian, to do any part of their job as a landlord. It’s almost comical how absolutely abysmal they are at their jobs, but my bedroom is currently 45 degrees Fahrenheit, so it’s hard to laugh about it. What an appropriate name for this management company. Guess I’ll be withholding my rent for a while.

I had a great experience working with Frances at Shamco Management. She was highly responsive and very friendly. After dealing with a less than spectacular management company at my current building, I'm looking forward to my new apartment managed by Shamco as they did such a great job during the lease signing process and gave me all the information I needed to know my rights as a renter in NYC. Our new building also has an Amazon hub, which my husband is very excited about!

If I could rate Shamco in the negative stars I would. This property management company is atrocious. If you are in the market for an apartment and it’s owned by Shamco, RUN. They bought our current property a year ago and it’s been nothing but a nightmare from maintenance, communication and unreasonable rent increases. They haven’t turned on the sprinklers all year so all the grass died. They don’t clean the outside of the units, and the rest of the landscaping has been reduced. But of course the rent increased! When approached about complaints, there is a dim witted middle man running the property and rude corporate management who says to “call us anytime” but refuses to answer or return calls. We have heard nothing but horror stories regarding move out procedures and residents having most of or all of their security deposit taken even though inspections were satisfactory prior to the official move out. They are shady and immoral people from the top down. As stated in their company name, SHAMCO is a SHAM. We are counting down the days that we can get out of here, and prepared to fight with them when they try to keep any deposits. Make sure you have a lawyer. Stay far away from any Shamco owned properties.
