I cannot say enough great things about my experience with the Rusty Spurr Ranch. From the beginning, we were greeted with warmth and friendliness. It's clear that the owners care for and respect their horses as living beings and see them as more than just money earners. Specifically they limit how many days a week and hours each day the horses are ridden and the owners retire and keep most of the horses when the time comes.

Bailey, our guide, was great! She was encouraging and attentive without being controlling. The open ranging style of the ride (opposed to nose-to-tail) allowed for us to have more individualized rides and was really fun. The landscape ranges from open lands, to hill tops, to beautiful alpine forests. Our 2 hour ride was the right amount of time for our group - we got to see a lot without legs getting stiff.

Recommend dressing in light layers as there is elevation climb so it was breezy but not hot (in late May). Long pants that can brush against bushes without rips are ideal.

Worth the drive and money!!

What an amazing ride we had last Saturday. We did the morning session for two hours - the weather was perfect, our wrangler (John) was super nice and very knowledgable, and the horses we rode were great. Connie, the owner, checked us in and could not have been nicer. But the best part of Rusty Spurr Ranch is that their trail rides are NOT typical nose-to-tail rides. Though we stayed close to our wrangler, we were able to take our horses on whatever path we chose through the sage brush, over hills, through valleys, through aspen groves - all with the most beautiful mountain scenery you can imagine. All in all, a great horse experience - we will be back!

Our 3 hour ride at Rusty Spur Ranch was awesome! Bailey was our wrangler and besides being extremely knowledgeable and experienced, she really helped my daughters (11 & 13) learn how to steer and ride better throughout the ride in a fun and warm way. The mountain views were gorgeous, each one more beautiful than the last and there were way more aspen groves and pine trees than I was expecting after driving up through the scrub brush, so we had a mix of all the scenery and some nice shade at points too. The horses were excellently trained and we had an amazing ride. We’ve been riding a few places in Gilpin and Summit County, and the drive up to Grand County was totally worth it as this was the best experience we’ve had so far. Highly recommend.

Amazing family experience thanks to the wonderful family and staff at Rusty Spur Ranch! Connie was very helpful over the phone, and John, our guide, was very attentive to the group on the 2 hour tour while offering outstanding care and support to our 8 year old daughter who had never ridden a horse outside of pony rides in an amusement park setting. The fact that the rider gets to personalize the ride through the aspen groves and mountainside truly gives it an authentic and very special feel. This is all a testament to the outstanding bond that the family that runs the ranch has for their horses, grounds, and staff. The experience is tailored from the beginning to pair a horse with the rider that will make the ride an optimal encounter with the beautiful surroundings. It was truly a wonderful experience.

We drove to Rusty Spurr from Dillon, and it was 1000% worth the drive! We pulled in and it was starting to storm, so the owners welcomed us into a smaller building with a warm fireplace to sit out the weather. The property, the owners, the horses and the trail guide-we had Autumn- made the entire experience amazing, not to mention we could see Wyoming from the top of the property. Autumn was very engaging and spoke to all of us while riding, but was very attentive to her job and making sure we were all comfortable. We can’t wait to come back, and we all highly recommend Rusty Spurr!

We had the most amazing experience horse back riding at the Rusty Spurr Ranch. Bailey our guide was incredible and the scenery was so picturesque it looked fake and felt unreal. The best part of this company is they give you the freedom to ride the horses without being nose to butt in a straight line. The horse back riding experience levels were all over in our group, yet everyone had the best time! I highly highly recommend them! We can’t wait to come back.

We had an absolutely amazing time on the 2 hour ride with Butch and Sassy. Definitely not your average trail riding business. You get the freedom to ride as you please. No awful robotic nose to tail ride. The horses here are a joy to ride and aren’t afraid to show their unique personalities, something that is rare in a trail riding business. And the owners pair you up perfectly with the right horse for you! When arriving to the facility, we were greeted with a huge smile and welcomed by a couple of their adorable dogs. They helped us mount and off we went! Our ranger was super friendly and gave us our freedom to ride where we please while also keeping safety in mind at all times. Beautiful scenery with even more beautiful horses. This place is definitely a gem in Colorado and I would love to return one day.

Amazing experience at Rusty Spurr Ranch! The drive to the ranch was beautiful and easy with their directions, the employees were all friendly and welcoming, and the horses were incredible with the different experience levels of our group (from novice to experienced). The 2-hour tour is a must- we roamed over peaks and through aspen trees with such gorgeous views. Our guide Holly was so patient, kind and helpful in teaching us how to maneuver and guide the horses up and down the beautiful landscape. Truly an unforgettable experience! We can’t wait to return!
