Solid service and friendly staff. Not everything a deal but good quality and sometimes men and women's gear on sale for one but not the other!

You have to buzz for help with the changing rooms. A few things on sale, but not always consistent - men's snow bib, not on sale, same one for women - on sale... strange?

Still quick and easy front checkout and membership pricing.

Just left REI East Hanover and my family and I cannot say enough great things about Fernando at the Bike Shop. We originally brought in our young son’s bike for a tire repair. While there, Fernando took the time to explain everything to me (and my son, who was listening so intently) and even pointed out some extra things he could do to improve the bike. He went above and beyond for us and made the visit feel special to our son.

Fast forward a few weeks later and we can’t get our son off of his bike. Our son also now convinced me to get a bike (which is now also being serviced at REI as we got it second hand). We will be purchasing a REI bike with training wheels for youngest son because now the entire family is back on bikes!

Thanks Fernando! Your kindness, patience, and insane amount of bike knowledge made a huge difference to us. I hope REI upper management can see this review! 🚲 👍

Very difficult to deal with when it comes to returns unless you are a “paid member”. Never heard of this sort of thing from other large stores. Kymberly who called herself a manager absolutely refused to do anything about the return, not even a store credit for the brand new item that is still being sold in store at full price. Customer service is crucial, you would think, in the times when Amazon dominates the market. Well, I’ll stick with Amazon next time or Nordstrom, to avoid this type of terrible customer service. See you never REI.

REI should specify much more visibly that electronics have a return period of 3 months. They are well known for a 1-year return period in the outdoor community even if gear is used and is one of the reasons I’ll shop with them over a smaller store. This isn’t a criticism of East Hanover REI in particular but REI as a whole. I was unable to return an item that I purchased while it was on sale in advance of a trip. I learned it did not work with my phone before heading on the trip last month and tried returning it a month after that thinking I was well ahead of the return period, but when I went to the store, I was unable to return it with the 90-day restriction and am now stuck with the defective device.

Love REI but not the place for ski gear. Didn't have the selection I was looking for. Luckily plenty of shops around the area and they even recommend some.

Service was incredible. Very well run store. I ordered a large kayak and naively showed up at the store thinking it would fit in the back of my short bed pick up. Pete and Chris helped me get it secured to the top of my vehicle to make the hour ride home safe and sound. You could tell they enjoyed what they do and helping customers in need. Extremely pleased and thankful for this great experience at REI.

I haven't returned to this store since I was treated rudely by a manager. Customer service said someone would contact me to investigate but of course they never did even though I contacted them 3 times.
