Didn't have a great experience dealing with Rob Johnson, head of wealth management at Realized 1031. I'm a commercial apartment broker and was trying to solve two issues. One, place some money into one of their DST's for myself and also buy a property from a client and get some info to pass on this client about him being able to do a 1031 exchange into a DST to defer taxes.
Not sure what Rob was thinking but I suspect he thought I was trying to skirt around some of their IRS rules or something and after trying to explain my investing needs over the phone he flat out told me "we can't help you" and refused to discuss it further and basically hung up at that point. As I am a licensed real estate broker with numerous apartment transactions under my belt I felt he was highly unprofessional and was frankly being a jerk. Won't deal with them and refer many of my client to other DST providers.

Reply: I had NO expectation for a commission and never brought it up. I flat out, point blank told him I needed to place money myself as well since I had just sold a property, the client's need was a side point. I have no desire to work with a company whose Head of Wealth management acts that way.
