I wish I could of gave them 0 stars but there is no option to. I submitted a rental application at the Washington Towers Management office in East Orange, NJ with a $50 money order for processing fee and submitted the required documents 1 bedroom apartment. I have been placed on standby for about 3 weeks and 2 days until I had to call headquarters (Murnick Property Group) to follow up on my application. On March 4, 2019, I called to follow up on my application, it's still processing, and called again on March 20, 2019 and she rushed to review my application and to say I have insufficient income when I made over $60,000 annually. I am an independent contractor for 3 jobs and had 1 employee job for 2018, and she doesn't know the difference between a W2 and a 10-99 form that they are both forms of income. She states that I only made $7,430 for the whole 2018 for ONLY my W2 Form. When clearly I made $57,000 for my 3 independent contractor jobs that has the 10-99 Forms. I strongly dislike how she twisted and miss read my gross income on my tax return while explaining to add my W-2 and 10-99 income together, she made it appear I would not be able to afford the 1 Bedroom apartment for $950/Month. I am a young black man who works very hard as a Uber and Lyft Driver to make a honest living while being a college student at City University of New York. I feel as though she discriminated me by my race, nationality, and MORE by my Age based upon my high income and 718 credit score for me being 20 years old. On Friday March 22, 2019, I called the Murnick Property Group and spoke to the same lady to ask for a "Letter of Deletion" to send to the credit bureau (Experian & Transunion) because I believed the Fair Credit Reporting Act was violated as I was discriminated by my age, race and nationality. She further states,"Oh I didn't even know your age when I reviewed your application, and you can't afford this type of apartment." I 100% disagree with that statement and believe she was looking for a reason(s) to deny my application based upon how much income I made for my age, race and nationality. She completely denied my request by saying, "Well, you have submitted the application with $50 which is non-refundable and an inquiry on your credit report regardless if it is approved or denied." According to Department of Justice, Title 15, The Equal Credit Opportunity Act, it states that, "The ECOA prohibits creditors from discriminating against credit applicants on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, age, because an applicant has in good faith exercised any right under the Consumer Credit Protection Act." In addition, it also says," Individuals who believe that they have been victims of any unfair credit transaction involving residential property may file a complaint with Department of Housing and Urban Development or may file their own lawsuit." For all of my hard working young black people Please DO NOT waste your Credit Inquiry and your time to applying for apartments with this company's properties listed below: 1. Executive House 2. Lafayette House 3. Washington Towers 4. Munroe Towers 5. Munn Heritage 6. Ambassador Towers 7. Parkview Gardens in New Jersey. They Will Absolutely shoot you down and find a reason to Deny your application either because of you making too much money in a year for your Age (Under 25) or your race/nationality. Also if you have an independent contractor job (10-99 Form) like Uber/Lyft Drivers, they DENY your application
