I rented a home from Dan at Four Cities property management which seemed to be off to a good start easy process no hassle to move in. My kids and I were there for almost 2 years and never saw Dan during this time. Dan called after the first year and said, "hey this is Dan from Four Cities we haven't heard from you and just wanted to make sure everything was fine." I am not the type of renter who bothers the landlord and can fix minor things on my own, then a storm came through and the rotted fence in the backyard fell down. I called and explained the issue and he came out a few days later walked through the house and in to the backyard said he would have someone out to fix it. No problem the fence was fixed within a couple weeks. A couple months after this incident I get a phone call stating the owner has decided to sell because he doesn't want to pay the capital gains tax on this property, I was shocked this happened and couldn't of been at a worse time financially and physically after 2 surgeries. Now yelpers this is where is it gets weird! I receive a 60 day notice and immediately start looking and coming up with a game plan! I work out a deal with DAN using my deposit as my last months rent so I can afford to move because I am forced to move and the home was in good condition always kept clean. DAN decides to just start popping up and nit picking things telling me I should have read my lease and we weren't suppose to have xmas lights up on the fascia of the home, now you point this out? There was a window broken in the sun room from weed waking which I did replace and have a receipt for and he made a snide remark on this as well. The next week he popped up on a Sunday afternoon to give me a 3 day notice because the rent hasn't been paid! Do you not remember what the agreement was? He also mailed me a 3 day notice which I received the next day! Dan said he makes commission off the rent and would need that then he could advance the deposit to me, then the next day changed his story again! I found a place and was able to move on the 1st the next month and I told him this as soon as I got approved for a new home. DAN then pulls up behind me in the driveway a couple days later and follows me in to the house and tells me he needs to do a pre walk through of the home , which is something the tenant has to request not the landlord and he needs to give a 24 hr notice! I busted out with my renters rights and forms I had printed out and Dan then tells me he needs to measure the rooms to put the home o the market.. I'm sorry did the square footage change? I told Dan he would have to wait and do that once we vacate the house was full of boxes as we were moving! Dan then began to call my new landlord demanding a copy of my new lease, Dan called her 3 times wanting this information and confirmation of move in! WHO DOES THAT? Dan said he need to confirm the utilities shut off date, I had already called Dan and told him several times the date I was moving which was the 1st and all shut offs were scheduled for the 5th and even sent him a picture f the cover page to my new lease! . When I finally confronted DAN on this aggressive behavior and calling my new landlord his exact words were, " I can do whatever I want!" DAN obviously does not know boundaries or respect! RENTERS have more rights then owners in CALIFORNIA! I moved and left the place cleaned and documented all of it by taking a video. I plan on filing with the BBB as well. BEWARE RENTERS! DAN IS A WEIRDO!!!! I have never experienced anything like this as a renter.
