I would give negative stars if I could. My mother passed suddenly in Jan. The estate had to sell the house, so we found a storage unit close by since we are 90 minutes North. I was able to book it online easy. It asked me what was in there and said should be just fine. When I checked in for the first time, was assured it will be fine to store the stuff there. Was sure to explain it was a lot. It was about 60% just stuff to reuse, or someone asked to hold onto.

The other 40% was my father's FDNY memorabilia, he passed away on 9/11. So loads of memories, photo albums, pictures, painting including a Peter Max painting of my father.

Then there was my mom's stuff, her knitting stuff. Her last finished art pieces she made. Her crafting stuff and all her media. Some furniture that was saved because she got them on trips and fell in love with them.

All covered in mold. All of it. I went there a few weeks ago to check on things, start getting some stuff out. And it was wet inside. Not damp. Wet. Rust at the bottom of the walls. I'm stuck now cause I've got a $600/mo 300square foot storage unit that k can't just empty out. So I went to the office and explained.

I was told by the employee on duty that it happens all the time. That the walls condensate to the point where he's "personally seen it run down the walls." I now got angry asking why that wasn't mentioned when I checked in. That it's obviously been a large problem in the past and feels like someone should have said something...since it wasn't surprising. I asked flat out what are they going to do. Nothing but a slack jawed idiot who stared at me while slowly processing the fact that he shouldn't have told me that, in a comical way like it's some joke as I'm telling him all my stuff is moldy.

I just went and emptied it, not that I had space or time to do so but wanted to get the rest of the stuff out before it got worse.

I also had mold testing done inside the unit and on items and the air in the unit was problematic with mold as well as surface testing things like my late grandmothers gothic dining room chairs she brought over from Germany in the 1960's.

To be honest I'd have rather stored the stuff in my yard with a tarp over it. At least it would have saved me the drive to just have my stuff destroyed.

PS these were just some random things that were moldy. Everything was but I wasn't smart enough at the time to document it all.

Added some other pics from the first time I went. The rust, things are wet and already moldy.

Oh and the hours we've had to spend painstakingly cleaning what we can, it takes a long time and playing with mold. We've probably got 150 hrs in easy trying to go though, pick out the memories that look like they can be saved and then sit and clean them. And my house is still loaded with moldy stuff now since I couldn't go through it bit by bit. But bring it all out at one time so the house over loaded with things to go through and clean. Like 1.5 rooms packed to the kilt. And garage.

I would like to let extra space storage know how pleased I was with Michael, site manager When I opened my contract with Extra Space Storage . He was very thorough. He even walked me to let me see my spot and he was very courthouse and explained everything to me. Michael is certainly a plus to your business

Michael was professional and straight forward. The biggest thing that I noticed was the price that I was quoted, didn't change when I signed up 8 days later. In today's world, that says a lot. UPDATE 11/16/24. Unfortunately, the bad about leaving reviews is that things can change afterwards. In my case they did, along with the price that I was initially quoted.

The customer service rep that i spoke to when i called to set up my rental was very nice and very informative! Everyone is very friendly and i appreciate them taking the time to explain the process to me! I see alot of reviews saying they thought the price was firm but the price of the unit changed. Im not happy about that but i was informed by micheal when he called me shortly after i paid that the price was going to be going up which i am confused about but it is what it is i guess

Rented a storage unit from Extra Space in Bayville and within MINUETS of checking out, the GM of the Bayville Location Michael called me right away to confirm receipt of the rental and answer and questions i might have.
