We rented a house listed on the Coldwell Banker Riviera Realty LBI website and were excited to spend a week on LBI. To their credit, they were very responsive in the beginning and we were easily able to book our vacation on the phone and by sending a check for the rent & security deposit.

We were told that due to the need for "special cleaning" we would not be able to check into the house until 4pm. So we made sure not to be too early. We called at 3:15pm to say we were on the island, and were told we could pick up the keys no earlier than 3:45pm which was understandable based on the current situation.

The pick up was smooth and we were at the house right at 4pm. When we arrived both the front and back doors were open which made us a little concerned that the cleaners were still there.

We shouted in to make sure no one was there and proceeded to enter the house. Once we stepped inside we were overcome with the smell of cigarettes. As we moved through the house the smell only got worse. We sighed and realized why the place was still available. We were also resigned to deal with the stench because we rented the house sight unseen. Once we started to unpack we noticed dead flies on the window sills and cob webs on the ceiling fans.

We contacted the realtor and were told that they would alert the owners. We spent $200 on cleaning supplies and an air cleaner and cleaned the house ourselves from top to bottom for the next 8 hours.

I wouldn't recommend renting from this realtor based on their lack of response to our needs.
