"During the viewing, there were still a few things being worked on at the house. We were assured these would be completed by move-in, the home would be cleaned, and pest control would spray as a preventative measure. Upon move-in day:
- the home had not been cleaned (there were leaves and dirt on the floors throughout the main traffic areas, and absolutely filthy windowsills - issues that were not present during the viewing)
- a sink still had a significant leak (present at viewing)
- many small, most likely german, roaches of various life stages crawled out of a vent and up a wall right after we opened the front door (not present at viewing).
- the fridge had been unplugged and had bugs in it. Who knows if any other appliances were compromised - we didn’t stay long enough to find out.
We decided it was too risky to move into a home with an active roach infestation. We were offered a delayed move in date while pest control worked on the house, but one week is not enough time to definitively resolve a roach issue of this magnitude.
They kept our deposit for breaking the lease. We had not moved a single thing in. It appears they have the legal upper hand, but that does not mean it wasn’t unethical of them. Per the lease, pest control was the responsibility of the homeowner.
We essentially paid them 1200 dollars to tell them they had roaches and help them get the property ready for the next unfortunate tenants.
Thoroughly inspect any property they have in their portfolio, or just stay away entirely. This was a very expensive lesson for us."

I found Blue Key Property Management through my realtor. I needed to rent my house and Jessica Watts has been so great to work with so far. She has quickly and kindly answered all of my questions throughout the process. They also found a renter super quick! I plan to come back and update my review once I’ve worked with the company a little more.
