When people write reviews, it’s all subject to their point of view. A decent amount of bad reviews are normally from angry individuals who let emotions get in the way.
Here is the reality of living at Barrington lakes:

Parking lots are so overcrowded and there are not enough parking spots for tenants let alone guests. Pot holes took months to be fixed (that’s being generous) and were cheaply patched that fall apart within another few months. Guest passes (or guest registry for their new online system) is a nightmare and the towing company will tow at 10 on the dot.
Garage floods and stays flooded for long periods of time, sometimes flooding so much to where you can’t walk out the main garage door you drove through. Gate key to the garage was almost always open because it was broken so often. There is a mountain of trash like toilets, tables, chairs, actual garbage, old AC units, etc just piled in a section. The ceiling has mold growing throughout majority of the garage. Visually disgusting and way overpriced if you ask me.

Outside my old building, light poles have been laying in the middle of the front dashed parking spots for over a year. (I moved out)

I never used the pool, gym or game room so I can’t really have an opinion. The clubhouse is basically a greenhouse which is pretty cool if you ask me.
The clubhouse has a very tropical feel. It’s very eye-catching.

But…
In the resident buildings, the hallway carpet looks beyond dirty and has dog urine stains. Overall, the hallways have a very unpleasant odor that’s very musky and of urine.

Management has changed so much I don’t even know who it is now. As I was moving out the property manager was new, but right before then it was Judith. Judith was very pleasant to talk with and I never had a negative interaction. The receptionists as a lot of other reviews say, are clearly miserable and are not pleasant to talk to.

I luckily did not get charged with anything after moving out, but I did put a full week or two into deep cleaning, patching, and upkeep. Hard work paid off!

I don’t know what else to say other than overall, I recommend avoiding this place. I lived here 3 years and that was 3 years too many. For what you get, the word “overpriced” does not even come close.

I had a terrible experience living in this community due to an ongoing rodent issue that persisted for over two months. Despite repeatedly reporting the problem, the management failed to resolve it in a timely or effective manner.

As a parent of a toddler, this situation was especially concerning. When I brought up the health and safety risks, the only advice I received was to keep all kid-related items “up and covered”—which is simply not practical to do every single day, especially with a young child at home.

I expected better responsiveness and accountability from the management, and unfortunately, that was not the case. I wouldn’t recommend this community to anyone, especially families with young children.

Also they charge you for what’s been already damaged while you move in. Even worse

That is what I am dealing COCKROACHES INFECTION. Since April until now August, sent tons of emails with no answers. Pest control was made with no result bc it’s a BUIDING infection. Hallway carpet smells very bad, with trash/garbage stain even on the walls. Managers do not care about you after your leasing signed.

We managed to find more than 30 cockroaches per day. All documented!
My husband had to seal part of the door with plastic as you can see at the pictures.

We have a 4years kid that can’t play around because we find cockroaches climbing the walls all day long.

Under Illinois law due non sanitary conditions leasing can be broken, I gave them 2 months 10days notice and they replied that the can’t break the leasing that they might do something soon and I need to wait. Well, I will meet Group Fox on court for sure.

As a person who has the misfortune to live in this complex, I will say this - everything is terrible here. Drying just to make things dry makes them dirty, because the grate inside is in a terrible state, white things have black spots thanks to it, and the parking service is the bottom of the barrel. I have never seen anything worse anywhere. It's a simple money-making scheme. Everything is fine on the website, there are no instructions, and then one day there is some problem with the registration of the car and your car is taken away the same night without even warning you. This is not normal. Overall, it's a lousy complex, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Terrible application process. Not only were their directions and requests unnecessary and confusing, they did not respond to emails in a timely manner, but gave us a 72-hour window before they cancelled the application with no refund. They demanded we submit photos of our social security cards for a credit check (even though we already submitted our SSNs). This was not stated on the application and not needed to run a credit check. After their requests had been completed, they failed to respond to several phone calls or emails despite being open. We ended up withdrawing from the application process due to frustration. Wish we would've never applied given we lost $500 in the process.

There's black mold in the hallways. Excessive dog poop all throughout the property that management refuses to do anything about. The gates are always broken. Yet they feel this place is worth $1700 for a one bedroom. There are much better options out there than this trash heap

I would rate it zero rating. They added unnecessary extra charges for cleaning after you vacate the place. I gave them unit in better and clean condition than what I got. I asked them proof of what was uncleaned and they didn't even bother to replay on email n forwarded my dues to collection agencies without reverting to my emails. I have a proof of pictures where the unit was and in great condition.

if you’re looking for a few- or 100s of roommates/friends to infest ur home and belongings, then you found ur place! this place offers unlimited amount of cockroaches to help out with daily chores and even cuddles at night. also, as a bonus, they have little mice friends making noises above u at night to better ur sleep. isn’t that a plus?! who doesn’t loveee white noise sounds? (i wouldn’t even move into this place if someone paid me to.)
