We recently rented from Alaska Car Rental (8-3/8-6) after departing from a cruise in Whittier. Alaska Car Rental sent us an email making it very clear that when arrived at Anchorage Airport, to call for a shuttle which will take us the location of the car. We went to the Key Box and entered the code and got into the very clean car. All seamless....

Enjoyed the car for the rental period and returned it as outlined in the email.

Here is where I feel Alaska Car Rental went way above and beyond!!! I realized that after I returned the car, I left a pair of prescription sunglasses in the car. I called them from the Airport on a layover in Dallas, on route to Florida, and spoke to Regina about the glasses. She took down all of my information and said that she would reach out to the care team who took in the car, cleaned it, etc, to see if they found the glasses.

After reaching out to the company again 2 days later as a follow up, I was lucky enough to speak with Regina again. She informed me that the care team did in fact find the glasses, and sent them to the company headquarters.

For a nominal fee the glasses are being sent to me at home in Florida. Great Customer Service! Kind People! Would absolutely recommend the company:)

Our rental car experience was quite bad with this company. We landed in Anchorage about 5 pm on a Saturday in the summer. At the day of pick up, it turns out this company has no kiosk at the airport. We had to find a shuttle driver to take us to their pick up spot which is located a few minutes drive from the airport. Unfortunately, they also have no office their either. The company never sent us an email on how to pick up the car. You need a code and you get the keys from the drop box. We had to call their number like 10 times until finally someone called us back saying it was only by luck she checked the company voicemail as usually nobody does that after hours. This process wasted like 2 hours.

The car was fine. No issues with the car.

We chose to return the car in Whittier at our cruise origin. Unfortunately the lot they asked us to drop it in at the cruise terminal was full. It is a small parking lot at the Marina they contract with. Alaska Auto said they could not help me and if I parked the car anywhere else I would be liable for tow charge. After an hour I found a marina worker who let me park the car in a no parking spot because he felt bad for me. He said this is a common problem with Alaska Auto. He said Alaska auto expects the parking spots to be available but they usually are not and this has been going on for a long time. Alaska Auto needs at basic minimum to find somewhere to be able to return the car at.

We were close to missing our cruise so this was very stressful.

This company does not have good logistics. Would not rent from them again.

We rented two gravel-road vehicles from Alaska Auto Rental for 2 weeks in September. The first vehicle was fine but the second one had thread-bare tires and hadn't been maintained (oil was very low). We ended up getting a flat tire on the way to Deadhorse and had to put on the spare and pay for the repair. And then the oil just about ran dry. We were barely able to limp it into Deadhorse for repairs. We saved the receipts, expecting Alaska Auto Rental to reimburse us for these expenses. We gave them the receipts when we returned the vehicles but even after 2 weeks of emails and phone calls, they will not respond and no reimbursement has been received. I highly recommend you avoid Alaska Auto Rental and use a more reputable company like GoNorth for gravel road vehicle rentals.

This rental agency saved our bacon! The airport rental totally let us down by not disclosing certain roads that they restrict (that are paved!) that we would drive on. Scout is a new employee but she went above and beyond and was able to immediately get us into a car for the week and for almost the same price we would have gotten with the airport rental car, and was extremely kind and empathetic. Skip the airport rental headache and come here!

We rented a car from Alaska Auto Rental for the first time last month (June). The price was competitive to the national companies (e.g. Hertz, Avis, etc.). We decided to give the business to a local company with an excellent rating. We wouldn’t hesitate to do it again. The booking and pickup process was efficient. The car was clean with low mileage and no maintenance issues. We received excellent customer service upon the return. Kudos to Tianna and Mahkayla.

Renting a car in the summer in Alaska is always an expensive proposition, but Alaska Auto Rental rates were the best we found. On top of that, the customer service was always excellent, the SUV we got was in great shape, and the pick-up and drop-off were fast. The only challenge we had was getting to the Anchorage lot from the airport, as it took some doing to get the shuttle.

I recently had the opportunity to rent a suburban from Alaska Auto Rental and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment I walked into their office, I was greeted with a warm smile and exceptional customer service. The entire process was smooth and efficient, with the staff making sure to explain all the details and answer any questions I had.
The suburban itself was in pristine condition and exceeded my expectations, it even had an auto start. It was clean, well-maintained, and had all the amenities I needed for my trip, extension cord, ice scraper and winter tires included. The best part was that it was exactly as advertised, with no hidden fees or surprises upon arrival. The rental company truly values transparency and it was evident in their service.
One thing that stood out to me was their flexibility and willingness to accommodate my needs. I wanted to to pick up my rental at a specific location and they were happy to assist me with that. Additionally, their pricing was extremely reasonable and competitive, making it an affordable option for me.
Overall, I highly recommend this company to anyone in need of a vehicle. They provide top-notch service, quality vehicles, and affordable prices. I will definitely be using their services again in the future and I am confident that anyone who chooses to rent from them will have an amazing experience, just like I did.
